Fitting Implicitly Defined Curves to Unorganized Points with Sharp Features

چکیده
In order to represent and reconstruct sharp features (i.e., corners) by an implicitly defined curve, we add so–called corner detector functions, which are special radial basis functions, to the function defining the initial curve. The parameters controlling them are automatically adjusted by applying an evolution process.

Modeling and 3D object reconstruction by implicitly defined surfaces with sharp features
We propose a new method for describing sharp features (i.e., edges and vertices) of implicitly defined surfaces. We consider an initial implicitly defined surface, which is represented as the zero set of a C1 smooth scalar field with non–vanishing gradients. In order to represent sharp edges and vertices, this surface is augmented by adding new types of implicit representations, called edge des...
متن کاملSharp feature preserving MLS surface reconstruction based on local feature line approximations
Sharp features in manufactured and designed objects require particular attention when reconstructing surfaces from unorganized scan point sets using moving least squares (MLS) fitting. It’s an inherent property of MLS fitting that sharp features are smoothed out. Instead of searching for appropriate new fitting functions our approach computes a modified local point neighborhood so that a standa...
متن کاملParameterization of clouds of unorganized points using dynamic base surfaces
In this paper a new method for parameterizing clouds of unorganized points is presented. The proposed method introduces the notion of dynamic base surfaces (DBS) which are dynamically adapted to the three-dimensional shape implied by the clouds of points. The only assumption regarding the cloud of points is the existence of a boundary defined by a closed path of four curves. The proposed method...
متن کاملFeature Extraction for Illustrating 3D Stone Tools from Unorganized Point Clouds
This paper presents a method for extracting features for illustrating stone tools. Features are detected from unorganized point clouds obtained by a 3D laser scanner. The curvature of each point in the point clouds is estimated by local surface fitting algorithm and used for detecting potential feature points. Feature lines are extracted by directionally growing algorithm. The main idea of our ...
متن کاملOrienting unorganized points for surface reconstruction
We address the problem of assigning consistently oriented normal vectors to unorganized point cloud with noises, non-uniformities, and thinsharp features as a pre-processing step to surface reconstruction. The conventional orienting scheme using minimal spanning tree fails on points with the above defects. Different from the recently developed consolidation technique, our approach does not modi...
